Additional Bandwidth
What is meant by 'bandwidth'?
The word 'bandwidth' is often used in reference to all manner of measurements...
but what we mean is simply this: the amount of data transferred to or from the
web site that you host with us. The 'Control Panel' accurately measures each site's
bandwidth usage every month, and tells you when your sites are likely to use more
than your standard allowance (so that you can buy the necessary additional blocks).
How much bandwidth is allowed to start with?
Every month your sites can send and receive up to 1Gb (1,024 megabytes) of
information (including your e-mail services) before you need to start thinking
about buying more. If you keep to a few very simple guidelines, most web sites
won't be a problem...
- Avoid images & animations where possible.
- Use compressed, optimised images.
- Avoid large downloadable files where possible.
- Store downloads on other "free webspace" servers.
- Minimise use of sounds, video and streaming media.
- Try not to e-mail large attachments too often.
How much does bandwidth cost?
Additional bandwidth allowance for each month is supplied in 1Gb blocks.
But because the amount of space your sites use can only be measured when
each month is over, you'll be asked to pay for any additional bandwidth
used at the end of each month. There's nothing to stop you buying
additional bandwidth in advance - it works out much cheaper than waiting
to pay after the event.
